"Fighting for Climate Justice",
to be included in the COP26 UK Universities Network on
Communicating Climate Risk Conference, London, November, 2021
This quilt, “Fighting for Climate Justice” depicts temperature data for Boston from the year 2019; each rectangle (one day) has two shapes representing the high and low temps of the day. Each month is one column, with January on the left.
I chose phrases that point to the fact that we need to change our daily behavior so we are not just picking the “low hanging fruit” by recycling, buying recycled products, and composting. That won’t be enough. We all must educate ourselves continuously.
Made of commercial cottons and hand-dyed fabric.

Tomato-Tomahto Quilt
An interesting project from Marianne's fall 2019 class. We began with a photo of our choosing. Then, we compiled fabrics to interpret the photo as we wished. (This is the array below the photo, in 2.5" squares.) Then, 6 inch squares sewn together. Next, a special cutting process, borders and the bottom picture is my finished quilt top prior to quilting. A fun project!
Au Revoir, Susan and Bob
A two sided pillow for our dear friends Susan and Bob who are leaving Sudbury this week for Gettysburg, PA. Made by Julie Weinstein and me. A good collaborative effort, as always.
"Shared Scraps" a scrappy bargello triptych
This will soon hang at the new Emerson doctor's building in Maynard Center.
Thanks to the members of Marianne Hatton's recent studio class for the shared fabrics. The more the merrier! Thanks to Marianne for introducing this fun project to us.

Shortly after the presidential election, we read that Democrats lost more than 1,000 legislative seats between 2008 and 2016: 11 governorships, 13 senate seats, 69 house seats, and 913 state legislative seats. We’ve since learned that those numbers are slightly exaggerated and that every president’s party loses seats during the term. But we were shocked at the numbers and the implications of these losses. We also realized that getting democrats elected at all levels would be a positive focus for our anger, fear and disgust at the new administration. Not instead of demonstrations, letters, petitions and phone calls, but in addition to those actions.
This quilt focuses on the idea that we need to fill 1,000 seats with progressive democrats at every level of government to restore decency and sanity to the nation. There may not be exactly 1,000 chairs on the quilt, but we came close to that number in the custom-designed and printed wallpaper fabric . . .
Please vote, participate, and work to fill legislative seats. It will take all of us to get this done. It will take time, but we can do it.

Our heroine, Lady Liberty, holds a torch in the air, a battle cry to remind us to raise our fists in the air, to resist, insist, assist and persist.
We have power! We must recognize that and not waste the power we have. We are stronger together than we are individually, and our collective power can and does change the world.
Quilt for Philip (Christmas 2015)
My husband Philip specifically requested a scrap quilt--made from leftovers rather than purchased fabric. And, when it was done he asked that it be named "Scrappy McQuiltface" after the overwhelming vote for the new English research vessel to be named Boaty McBoatface. It was not named this however, instead RSS Sir David Attenborough. Win some, lose some, but Philip's choice prevails for his quilt!
